Last Thursday, October 16th, SoCo Wood & Windows welcomed local builders, architects, and design professionals to our Durango showroom for an evening of learning, networking, and celebration — all centered around innovation in window and door performance.
Exploring Southwest Building Challenges
In the heart of the Four Corners region, building efficiently means understanding the unique challenges of the Southwest: intense sun, temperature swings, and high-altitude conditions that test every component of a home. Our gathering brought together industry professionals to share insights on how to meet these challenges through smarter design and better materials.
AIA Continuing Education: “Windows & Energy Performance”
The event kicked off with a free AIA credit course, Windows & Energy Performance, led by Marvin representatives. Attendees earned 1 CE credit while diving into the science behind energy-efficient window systems—from thermal breaks and glazing technologies to how materials like fiberglass outperform alternatives in resisting heat transfer.
The discussion focused on balancing aesthetics with performance and how specifying the right window can reduce energy costs, improve comfort, and help projects meet strict efficiency codes in the Southwest climate.

Introducing the Marvin Vivid™ Collection
Following the class, guests enjoyed a lively social hour with drinks, prizes, and hands-on demonstrations of Marvin’s new Vivid Collection — a bold leap forward in high-performance design.
Crafted with Ultrex® fiberglass, the Vivid line offers durability and low maintenance, all while achieving impressive energy performance ratings (up to PG50 on select models). Builders were particularly excited about the large-format options — casement windows up to 8 feet tall, awnings up to 6×5 feet, and direct glaze windows up to 6×10 feet — giving designers the freedom to go bigger and brighter without compromising efficiency.
With easy installation features like flat frames, reinforced mull systems, and mitered nailing fins, Vivid proves that energy-efficient design doesn’t have to come at the cost of convenience or beauty.
Building Community Through Innovation
The evening wasn’t just about new products — it was about connection. From conversations about Durango’s unique energy codes to ideas for sustainable home design, the event reflected SoCo’s ongoing commitment to helping builders and architects create smarter, stronger homes for our region.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, to Marvin for their partnership, and to all the professionals who continue to raise the bar for energy performance in the Southwest.
