Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have my builder or contractor contact SoCo Wood & Windows?

It depends on the project. For home furnishings or smaller projects, we are happy to work directly with you to create the wood products exactly as you want. For new construction, renovations, and remodels that require building materials, send us your inspiration photos (or take our design quiz!) and put us in contact with your builder or contractor. We’ll work with both you and your builder to design the look you want and ensure the job goes smoothly.

How soon can I expect my order to be completed?

Because we mill each order carefully by hand, your order will be finished roughly 2-4 weeks from when the order was placed. This timeline does not include shipping or local delivery of the final product. Large and/or custom orders and orders made from specialty materials may have a longer lead time. We will discuss the lead time with you when we send your estimate to ensure proper expectations are set and communicated.

How long will it take my windows/doors to arrive?

With worldwide shipping disruptions, a lot depends on what company and even what product you choose. We recommend ordering your windows and doors several months out to provide a cushion and ensure you’ll have your products when you need them.

Why do you have a door shop?
Most doors that you order arrive without a frame, meaning that you or your contractor have to build the door frame and hang your door yourself. It’s a long and tricky process that, frankly, no one enjoys. Luckily, our in-house door shop will build your frame and hang the door for you, so all you have to do is install it!
Will SoCo Wood & Windows deliver my order?
We deliver within a 100-mile radius of Durango, Colorado. Depending on the size of your order, our trucking fleet will determine how to get your product to you on time. Outside of this area, you can pick up the order yourself, or we can ship it to you via USPS, FedEx, or UPS for standard-sized orders, or LTL (less-than-truckload) freight for larger orders. Delivery and shipping charges depend on the destination, order size, weight, and carrier.
Does SoCo Wood & Windows measure and install?

SoCo Wood & Windows is a manufacturer and distributor so we do not install our products. While our finished products are generally easy to install, we recommend having a professional contractor, carpenter, or builder install parts such as trim, stair treads and risers, and box beams.

What if my window or door arrives damaged?
We’re here to help make it right. If your products arrive damaged, call us immediately. We will help repair the product or work with the manufacturer to get it replaced ASAP.
Do you accept returns?
As each order is handmade custom to your specifications, we cannot accept returns. Please read all parts of your estimate carefully before approving the order. We believe in fine craftsmanship and fully stand behind our products, so if your product(s) arrives damaged, less-than-satisfactory, or not as described on your estimate, contact us and we will repair or replace it.
Do you pre-finish, paint, or stain?
We do not. Ever do a remodel and try to match a stain that you didn’t do originally? It’s a nightmare! And trying to match factory-stained pieces is extremely difficult if not next to impossible. That’s why we deliver our products bare wood–so you can completely control the finish at the time of install.
Do you match wood profiles?

Yes. With over 60 years of experience and the knife collection to prove it, SoCo Wood & Windows can match any profile. Whether it is a historic renovation or moulding profile that you fell in love with while on vacation, we can recreate it in any species of wood you wish. And with NO minimum run, there is no job too small!

If I show you pictures of wood products I like, can you help me create the look?
Absolutely! Make us collaborators on Pinterest or Houzz or simply email us a picture and we will work with you to recreate the look or custom design the look you want. We know our window and door brands well, and can point you toward the products that match what you like.
